I love quirky and different marketing tactics. And this campaign, searching for Mr or Mrs Burger, is designed to go viral on social media.
Mr Burger is food truck that travels around inner city Melbourne.
It is a pretty cool set up.
And with it being in a different location each day you plan your lunch schedule around when the truck will be in your neck of the woods. The combination of good food and the novelty really pays off and the line up to get one on any given day is quite reasonable – it pays to take your lunch break early on Mr Burger Day.
This promo they have launched is if you are willing to change your name to “Burger” they will give you a lifetime of free burgers from their outlet.
How many people will actually do this?
I think they will be lucky to get 10.
But, how many people are talking about their product?
The promo launched June 27 and since then they have an additional 200 likes on their Facebook page, with Twitter following suit. A couple of media outlets have picked up on it, but I don’t think it will be long before mainstream media picks up on it and this campaign blows up social media.
Heck! Even I’m talking about it.
This campaign is gaining social attention and interaction from the public. Which means, with the likes of me sharing it, you are now likely to want to look at their website and find out who they are. All of a sudden this unknown brand is on your radar. Which means, when you drive past a truck parked on the side of the major Melbourne road with a line of people out the front you will all of sudden know what it is. You might even pull the car over and decide to try one yourself.
Such is the power of viral social media marketing.
And when people do change their name to “Burger”, imagine the interaction that will occur then. All social media platforms will be sharing content and images of Mr or Mrs Burger and the first of their lifetime of free burgers.
What I love most about this promo is that IT COST NOTHING to implement. Just a bit of creative thinking and working social media like a boss.
This is how good social media marketing is done.
